Outfit ideas for Christmas

With Christmas nearly here, and all the mad preparation underway, you may not have had a chance to think about what you're going to wear during the festive period. Most of us will have something lurking in the back of the wardrobe but having not had much opportunity to get dressed up of late, it can be tricky to switch up our normal casual outfits for something more dressy. So I’ve taken some of the common pieces most of us own and given you some ideas on how to style it using simple outfit formulas.

Whether you'll be celebrating with family at home or are planning on going out to a restaurant, the outfit ideas below will make you feel special. I've found some gorgeous outfits that you can re-create from the pieces that you already own. So take a few minutes for yourself and be inspired!

  1. Sparkle and Shine!

Dust off those sequin separates! Team them with a simple knit to soften them and dress them down so you don’t feel overly dressed up during the day.

2. Go Tonal

This works with any colours, so choose your favourite! Unless it’s a specific co-ordinated piece or suit, pair different textures together so that you don’t notice any variation in the tones of the fabrics.

3. Keep it Classic

Wear your failsafe black trousers and with your favourite top for an outfit that you know you’ll feel comfortable in all day.

4. A Touch of Luxury

Make the most of your heavy weight velvet pieces. Team bottom with basic jersey tops or knits depending on your body temperature. Add a splash of animal print for a fun look or gold to add to the opulent look.

5. Contrast

Use the white or light coloured bottoms that may have not had an outing since the summer and pair it with a vibrant red or green for a showcasing festive outfit. Don’t forget the napkin to avoid gravy splashes!

6. Check

The laid back plaid print looks great when worn with dressier pieces like tulle, satin or lace. These ladies have all worn theirs with statement red shoes and lipstick to elevate the look even more!

I hope this has given you some ideas on how you can create new outfits from pieces that you already own. You can find out more ideas on my Pinterest board ‘Christmas Outfit Ideas’ by following the link below.
