Get Style Inspiration with Pinterest: A 3 Step Tutorial

Do you prefer neutrals or bright colours? Statement pieces or understated elegance? Minimal or embellished? Or do you feel overwhelmed and not really sure what you like, let alone how to turn it into an outfit that you can actually wear?! Don’t despair, read on!

Having a clear idea of what you like will really help you to create outfits that you love and wear. It’s the most important tool when I am advising clients, because everybody has their own tastes, likes and dislikes. Two client’s characteristics could be physically similar but what aesthetically defines them and differentiates them from each other is the way that they put an outfit together the pieces they choose, how they wear them and what they pair them with. One look definitely does not fit all, although some key wardrobe basics definitely help!

How can I develop a personal style that reflects my personality and makes me feel confident?

The more you know about what you like, your style and the image you want to portray, the easier it is to find and create outfits that you love. As a Personal Stylist, having that insight into my client’s preferences makes it easier for me to advise my client's about how to use those elements to create their perfect outfits. Pinterest is one of my favourite tools to use with clients, it’s an online scrapbook of millions of images and is a fantastic tool to help you discover and curate your personal style. Gone are the days of old-fashioned sticking and gluing; with Pinterest, you can curate your dream outfits effortlessly- it’s the ultimate online scrapbook of millions of images! In this guide, I'll walk you through the process of creating a fashion inspiration board and offer tips on finding the perfect images to suit your style.

  1. Getting Started on Pinterest

If you haven't used Pinterest before, don't worry it’s a user-friendly platform and it's incredibly easy to get started. Follow these simple steps:

Accounts are free and you can sign up here with a basic easy details. But warning, you may find it a bit addictive and hours can easily pass by!

Create a board

Once you've signed up, it's time to create your first board. Think of a name that reflects its purpose, such as "Outfit Inspiration." Choose the "women's fashion" category to ensure you find relevant images.

Privacy options

By default, boards on Pinterest are public, allowing anyone to search and see what you've created. If you want to keep your board a secret so that only you and your fashion expert can view it, select the "Secret" option below the category. Remember, you can always adjust the privacy settings later.

2. Collaborating

For my clients, you can add me as a collaborator so that I can see the board and provide personalized outfit suggestions. Here's how to do it:

Add a collaborator

Once your board is created, go to the board settings and search for my name Hayley Eleanor. Add me as a collaborator, which will grant me access to view and contribute to your board.

3. Pinning Images and Finding Inspiration

Now that you're all set up on Pinterest and have a collaborator on board, it's time to start pinning and exploring images that inspire your fashion sense. Here are a few methods to help you find the perfect outfit ideas:

Explore Hayley Eleanor's profile

Begin by browsing Hayley Eleanor's profile. Pin the images that resonate with your style and taste. This will give me a better understanding of your preferences.

Utilize the search feature

Pinterest has a powerful search feature that allows you to input specific keywords. For example, you can search for "women's casual outfits," "women's coats," or any other fashion-related term that interests you. Explore the search results and pin the images that catch your eye.

Home feed exploration

The home feed feature on Pinterest provides a curated selection of images based on your interests. Click on the "Home" tab next to the search bar to discover new fashion ideas, trends, and popular styles. Pin the images that speak to you and add them to your inspiration board.

Upload your own images

Pinterest isn't just limited to images found on the platform. You can also upload your own images from websites or personal photos. If you come across an inspiring outfit on a fashion blog or snap a picture of a stylish ensemble you saw on the streets, simply upload the image to your board. This feature allows you to personalise your style journey and incorporate real-life fashion moments.
