Your Spring Style Questions Answered

I recently sent a questionnaire out to my Email subscribers about how they are feeling about their current wardrobe and what I could do help them. Here are some of the questions that I got asked:

Let’s Resolve those Issues!

Trying to to look on trend for my age

I think you can incorporate trends into your wardrobe at any age, it’s just about picking those trends that fit in with your own personal style and aesthetic. I’d start with one item that easily works with other pieces that you already own and add from there. Maybe some new footwear or a top with an trend pattern or detail? If you’re feeling a bit lost with your style at the moment. I would suggest creating a mood board of outfits that you really love and try to find some influencers who are a similar age or aesthetic to you to get some inspiration from. My upcoming class Create Spring Outfits will also help you get clear on your personal style and give you plenty of inspiration and advice.

Covering a mum tum

Try a higher waisted jean/trouser for extra support and they provide more fabric in the rise to accommodate a tum. Dresses with a pattern are always a winner, no waistbands to worry about and the pattern disguises the tum!

Love the style of this Francesca Floral Maxi Dress from Mint Velvet, £129 which could easily be dressed up or down.

Making short legs look longer and a good bra but I’m fussy about the shape!

I’m longer bodied with shorter legs and swear by half tucks, nude shoes and showing some ankle! I’ll be covering this in more detail in the class Dressing your Body Proportions.

There’s a brilliant independent bra specialise called Sara who specialises in bras for different shapes busts. Check out her Bra Sense website.

Outfits for dinner/pub nights with friends

So many possibilities! Check out my blog post 4 Easy Outfit Formulas For an Evening Out for some ideas.

Easier to care for clothes (no dry cleaning!) in good fabrics (no polyester or viscose), with pockets, that hold their shape. No baggy knees in trousers etc. so difficult to find…

Dry clean only clothes are quite unusual nowadays unless they are lined (because of the risk of shrinkage). Depending on your style preferences brands such as Me & Em, Baujken, Poetry and Jigsaw all use good quality fabrics. They are investment pieces but will last for years. If you want suggestions of other brands or pieces specific to your needs we could discuss during a Style Power Hour.

Where does a fifty year old start with choosing spring clothes when you’ve flabby arms and a belly!

Why not try a comfortable skimming dress with sleeves or some palazzo trousers with a nice top? The outfit on the left could easily be dressed down with flats for casual, or colours and patterns added to make it personal to you. Get in touch if you want some specific help finding pieces or outfits or join my upcoming class Create Spring Outfits which will give you plenty of inspiration and advice.

As women we are our own harshest critics!

I find it difficult to dress me as I have an apple shape

Depending on your Personal Style, Gemini Woman has some great brands for apple shapes and Live Unlimited have some great dress and top styles. The style of dress on the right would be great on you- Tie Waist Tiered Midi Dress from Live Unlimited, £85.

If you want specific help finding pieces or outfits, get in touch or book a place on my Dressing Your Proportions Class where I’ll be covering body shapes.
