Do you feel tired of wearing jeans but struggle to find other casual options? Like most people, I turn to jeans as my go-to casual outfit when I'm busy with the kids. They will undoubtedly always be a stalwart in the majority of casual wardrobes, however some people simply don’t find them comfortable or too restrictive. or simply because it is nice to have some alternatives so you can change it up sometimes!

The choice of trousers you try will depend on your individual style and lifestyle. Here are some popular styles to consider adding to your wardrobe that are both stylish and effortless, perfect for everyday wear:

What Trousers Should I Wear in Spring?

  1. SMART JOGGERS

Not the gym-going tracksuit style! These are a comfortable and cozy option that can be dressed up or down depending on your mood. A more tailored style will offer you all the comfort but can look chic and put together by either including an element of coordination in the colours of the outfit or by adding a smarter more tailored piece. A denim jacket, blazer or leather biker style will be perfect when you need an outer layer.

2. CARGO TROUSERS

These are perfect for those who prefer a more rugged, military-inspired style. These have a bit more of a utilitarian vibe, but they can still look chic when paired with the right pieces. Plus, they have plenty of pockets for all your essentials! This year, they are making a comeback because of the return of 90s and noughties fashion. But forget the low-sung All Saints styles with billowy legs, multiple zips zips and pockets, and instead opt for more structured fabrics in straighter or wide leg styles. Plenty of styles around have subtle style details that reflect the trouser's original utilitarian aesthetic.

3. CHINOS

Perennial springtime classics, chinos come in light colors and traditional twill fabric. Typically made of 100% cotton, they are lightweight and airy. Chinos have always been popular among those who favor a classic and country look, but they also look equally chic when paired with either trainers or heels. They come in different rise heights and leg widths, making them a versatile wardrobe staple.

4. JUMPSUITS

Looking for the ease of a put-together outfit with the added benefit of a trouser? There are many different cuts and styles available to suit various body shapes, but you might need to try on a few to find your perfect fit! Fortunately, brands like Phase Eight, Jigsaw, and Hush always have a selection each season to meet your needs.

5. WIDE LEG TROUSERS

If you're looking for something a bit more formal than joggers, wide-leg pants are a great option. They're still comfortable, but they give off a more polished look. Personally, as the weather warms up, I love to expand my trouser width! You can find them in many different fabric mixes, from cotton blends to lightweight linen. Flat front styles work best for those who are conscious of their tummy, while pleats are great for those who don’t mind adding a little bulk in that area.

6. CULOTTES

Culottes are a trendy and versatile clothing item that features a cropped, wide-legged design. They offer a comfortable and stylish alternative to skirts, allowing for greater freedom of movement without the worry of any accidental mishaps. The length of culottes can vary from below the knee to ankle-skimming, so it's essential to choose a length that flatters your proportions. If you're conscious about your legs, avoid culottes that hit you at the widest point of your calf.

To create the illusion of longer legs, pair your culottes with nude shoes or slim, shaft-fitting boots. These shoes will elongate your leg line and create a more cohesive look. Whether you're dressing up or down, culottes are a perfect choice for any occasion.

7. SIDE STRIPE TROUSERS

Side-stripe trousers in bright and bold colors are some of the most sought-after pieces from Marks and Spencer's latest collection. They offer a comfortable yet stylish update to traditional tracksuits, and are perfect for those who want to stay on-trend. Other brands, such as Me&Em and Mint Velvet, have options in neutrals and checks, giving a subtle nod to the popular athleisure trend that has emerged during the pandemic.

To achieve a more sophisticated look, consider opting for tailored cuts and luxurious fabrics. Avoid shiny polyester styles, which are often associated with tracksuits and may not give the polished look you desire. Instead, go for materials like cotton, wool, or silk blends. These will not only look more luxurious but also be more comfortable to wear.

Ultimately, the choice of trousers you choose to wear is entirely up to you, and it's important to wear what makes you feel comfortable and confident. I hope this helps you in exploring some new options and finding your perfect casual look!
