This week I have gone stripe crazy and purchased a Breton stripe top (or two!) The top was originally part of the uniform of French naval seaman and featured 21 stripes to represent each of Napolean's victories. Coco Chanel was the first designer to spot the fashion potential of the stripes and introduce it into her nautical collection. The look has been worn by classic stars and continues to be loved by celebrities today. Make like Audrey Hepburn by wearing your t-shirt with cigarette trousers and ballet flats, or with skinny jeans and a pair of converse for a laid back look like Alexa Chung. Here are some of my favourites:
For those with smaller busts an overall stripe is great. For those with larger busts, tops that have breaks and variations in the stripes are most flattering.
